Rahman Oshodi, the judge at the special offences and domestic violence court in Lagos, convicted Olaleye on a two-count charge of defilement and child sexual assault by penetration of his wife’s niece, offences which he was alleged to have committed between March 2020 and November 2021

The judge ruled that the defendant should serve life imprisonment for count one and the same for count two.

The judge said the sentencing should run concurrently.

Recall in November 2022, Olaleye was arraigned by the Lagos state government on a two-count charge of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration.

The medical doctor, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The cancer care advocate was accused of sexually violating a minor, who was said to be a niece of his wife, for over 20 months.

During the trial, Aderemi, the estranged wife of Olaleye, had told the court that his husband introduced the underage victim to pornography and oral sex.

The Child Rights Act adopted by Nigeria in 2003 requires that the well-being of every child be respected and considered paramount and provides that anyone who has sexual intercourse with a child is liable to imprisonment for life upon conviction.

Law is not a respecter of person(s). Under the Nigeria law, it is immaterial whether the act was done with consent or without the consent of the child.

Chapter 16 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State under Offences against Morality stated that any person who has unlawful sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for life.
