Good hygiene is a habit every child should learn from young age. Just like good behaviour is learned, so, is good hygiene. It is not what anyone will just pick up and starts exhibiting when he becomes an adult. It doesn’t work out that way. It will be a pretense which will eventually boomerang. What you don’t have in you, you don’t exhibit!

How do you have it in you?

Just like Peak Milk advert, ‘It’s in You’. If you don’t have it in you, you can’t display it. Good hygiene is what every child learn from childhood at home. Charity, they say, begins at home. If you are not thought by your parents or you don’t accept their teachings, it is a risky venture in every area of your lives. It affects the way you dress, the way your home is kept neat up till the way your bathrooms and kitchen are kept cleaned. It will become a normal thing that trying to be neat will become difficult except you get extra hands to fix it for you.

Why good hygiene is important for you

Good hygiene is important to you because it is the only way you can be free from diseases especially those common among children. This is because as children, you display adventurous behavior that get you dirty easily. Even at home, despite the Covid-19 pandemic warnings, it is hard to curtail your adventure and that was why government decided to keep children at home for long. Whether you like it or not, you come in contact with a lot of germs even at home.

So children, do not put up a fuse when you are asked to take your bath or watch your hands. It is for your good. It is by taking your bath, cleaning your hands regularly and getting rid of your dirty clothes that you will be free from those germs you accumulated all through the day. Seeing is believing, but you can’t see germs.

How to keep up a personal hygiene

Bathing: Bathing is a necessary hygiene that should be done at least twice a day. In the morning and before going to bed so as to wash off all the sweat and dirt accumulated during the day before going to sleep. It also helps you to sleep better because if you do not wash your body, you may feel itchy and will not enjoy the sleep.

Handwashing: Always wash your hands before coming in contact with food. According to a World Health Organisation report, thousands of people die every day around the world from infections. Hands are the main pathways of germ transmission and therefore the most important measure should be taken to keep it clean to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent health care-associated infections.

Nail neatness: Cut your nails regularly as a child. You can’t keep a long nail because you still don’t have all the time and money to maintain it. Nails habours germs that easily cause diseases. So trim and clean your nails regularly. Clean handed people are clean. So be clean, wash your hands.

Cleanliness is next to godliness.  You learn all these good hygiene to stay healthy from home. It must be part of you so as to reduce the rate of infectious disease that is threatening the world.
