Ogun students to enjoy free internet for academic learning

Students in Ogun state will henceforth have access to free internet service to boost their education.

This is even as the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun revealed that that the state is partnering with telecommunications service providers to secure free internet services to students of public primary and secondary schools.

Abiodun spoke at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, at an event organised to commemorate the year 2020 International Students’ Day.

The governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, harped on the importance of virtual learning, especially during COVID19 pandemic period.

“The digicalss was to leverage on the emerging technologies to help the students discover their purpose, unleash their potentials and build their future”, adding that government is working on modalities to improve on the digiclass and ensure that more students participate in the tele-tutoring.

Abiodun added that the new teaching method, aided by technology would improve the standard of education and also increase students’ enrollment in schools.

“During the lockdown when it wasn’t possible for us to come to school, we introduced the Ogun digital class. What we are doing now is to improve on that to the extent that more and more students will be able to benefit from it.

“We are working on a programme through which telecoms providers will assist so that students can have free data to be able to access digital materials”.

“We are looking into a situation whereby students can go online to access materials and they can learn without necessarily having to bother about data”, the governor said.
